In the past month or so, I’ve been to La Crete and Manning, Medicine Hat, Westfield (north of Foremost), and a field of canola 20 minutes southeast of Foremost.

I was also able to get to Linden, Huxley, High River, Coaldale, Leduc, and Vauxhall for their annual pig roast on June 20, where they hosted approximately 500 people. I spent Saturday, June 15, in Didsbury at the MCC Relief Sale with our Foodgrains Bank table and display.

Westfield, north of Foremost. 27 years strong!

The Foremost (southeast) field pictured below is the southernmost field (for Foodgrains Bank) in Alberta; they are dealing with an invasion of gophers, and the gophers love canola. They can apparently destroy a crop. The Manning field, right now, would be the northernmost.

Not all projects are the same; in fact, none really are.

Some are landowners who simply decide to forward a portion of the rent each year. Some are single-family groups that seed and harvest a piece of land for Foodgrains Bank each year. And some are larger, inter-church, or community projects. A new project is taking off near Tofield. I haven’t seen the field yet, but the sign went up this weekend. Welcome, Gordon and Wendy! We’re thankful for creative initiatives that keep happening.
