Four one-employee AFSC offices will be amalgamated with neighboring offices, and 38 branches will remain available to serve Albertans in rural communities, province-wide.

The High Prairie, High River, Rimbey, and Smoky Lake branch offices will be closed permanently as of May 1, 2021.

To ensure fiscal responsibility and best use of taxpayer dollars, AFSC continually reviews their branch network from a “what makes good business sense” and “what could work for our clients” perspective. As part of that review, consultation took place with a sample of approximately 250 clients to discuss service needs and preferences.

The newly amalgamated offices will provide increased support for AFSC clients and staff, while offering a full range of risk management and lending products for Alberta producers. The five one-employee offices did not provide full service offerings, had limited foot traffic, served a smaller client base, and are in close proximity to other AFSC offices.

Beginning immediately, AFSC teams will work with all clients and staff members to determine the best fit and provide a smooth transition for transferring clients. AFSC clients will have multiple branch options to choose from, and staff members will be transferred based on business needs. No client-facing staff were affected by the amalgamations.

Client inspections will not be affected by the branch changes, as AFSC claims distribution to inspectors is automated, and inspectors do not need to attend an office to manage claims. Priority for claims management is not impacted by branch location.

AFSC also offers several delivery channels to serve clients, including the Client Contact Centre (1-877-899-2372), a Live Chat option, online through AFSC Connect and on-site (as required, by appointment due to COVID-19).
